Welcome to my world, the world of Club House Rags. The images that you are viewing now I completed in 1978. It was my whimsical look at the dyed in the wool golf fanatic and it was my loose interpretation into the world behind the Country Club Gates. These stereotypical images are the characters that would be to play golf nine days a week if the opportunity presented itself. I guess a better name for this group would be “Vintage Hickory Swingers” with a lot of emphasis on the word Swingers. I used to joke about these types saying that “Golf would be a great way to make a living if you had nothing to do and all day to do it in,” but to these guys it’s no joke, and they can actually pull it off.

IS THERE A DOCTOR ON THE FAIRWAY?

Murdoch is a great example of why it’s become so difficult to find a physician these days. He is one of 99 other doctors that are all playing golf at the same time. Believes he’s made himself constantly available with an unlisted number he has left at every hole. That number is 19 and when dialed it responds with a message that says, “the doctor is on the fairway.” The Doc is a true believer that the “Anatomy of a Shot” is actually an outpatient procedure that is best performed at the course between the front and back nine, which works out extremely well for Murdoch since the AMA actually only licenses him to practice medicine at the Club.

THE DEDICATED GOLFER

Always Shoot 86 Proof, is Jock’s self-professed mantra as Captain of his infamous Club team. Well known as “Single Malt Golf,” he has overlapping hangovers and can burp in three different languages. He loves the fact that 86 is the only golf score you can consume after the round, and shamelessly utilizes the 19 hole as his base of operations. Jock’s wife doesn’t understand him, nor does she care to. His favorite pastime at the clubhouse bar, while in the company of female companionship, is Slap and Tickle, or more commonly known as “Playing through.” He uses this approach with every woman he encounters. This guy is too fast to be a Wolf. The ladies at the Country club call him “Greyhound.” He is the true epitome of “The Dedicated Golfer.”

WRONG KIND OF BIRDIE

Jackie sustained a hit in the head from a Mashie Niblick years ago. Since that time, his speech has been slurred and he has a tendency to see things that just aren’t there. Plus, every time he plays, he thinks he’s finishing every hole at one under par. He is under the firm belief that he continues to be the undefeated club champion for the last 10 years running, when in reality, what he’s really notorious for is his famous “Dribbler Shot.” This is his innate ability to get the ball off the ground, so it dribbles tight along the fairways, making him think he is always on the green in one. “Scotland the Brave”, Jackie!
